Sobrie-Tea Packaging

We want to keep you up-to-date on our venture with the Alcoholism Council of New York, Sobrie-Tea (see what we're doing), and we need your opinions, tea lovers!

We have conceptualized the first draft of packaging for the teas.  The label will be placed on a cylindrical canister.:

Below is a first draft of the copy that we plan on putting on the back of the label:

There are an estimated more than 28 million individuals in recovery worldwide. Many are associated with networks that are outside of Alcoholics Anonymous. They are also a wonderful grassroots resource that spreads the word related to their cause to each other, friends and allies. In addition there are over ninety affiliate organizations  (we are one of them) of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) in 30 states. Other resources for marketing are treatment centers, halfway houses, prisons, rehab centers, outpatient clinics and much more. There is also Alanon. We have access to all of these groups and many more that we would market to through our website, list serves, etc. We also discussed super markets , small coffee stands,  tea houses etc; the outreach and capacity to market  is enormous.

Leave us a comment with your thoughts.  We want to hear them!

Bartering With Tea @ Carole Hyatt's Leadership Forum

Last night we brought out the true art of collaboration by giving tea goody bags to all 120 guests at Carole Hyatt's event, 'The Joy of Bartering & The Art of Collaboration'.  A great night filled with inspiring stories about women in business who bartered and collaborated to become successful.

Check out the pics:

End Violence - 4thU V Day Party

Did you know that one out of every three women in the world will be abused during her lifetime? In a world that we consider modern, this is a staggering statistic that desperately needs to be improved. Sadly, abuse can effect more than just the woman being directly harmed. The Family Violence Prevention Fund performed studies in which results showed that, “Growing up in a violent home may be a terrifying and traumatic experience that can affect every aspect of a child’s life, growth and development.” No woman or child should ever have to bear the burden of this brutality.

We believe that all of us have the power to put an end to violence against women, which is why we’re lending a hand to this year’s 4thU V-Day Valentine’s Day Benefit. This beautiful party will feature guest speaker Judy Norsigian, who is the the Executive Director of Our Bodies Ourselves. Also known as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective (BWHBC), OBOS is a nonprofit, public interest women’s health education, advocacy, and consulting organization. Norsigian and OBOS not only help end violence against women, but also empower them to be active and powerful members of their communities.

There will be live music, cocktails, appetizers, and the company of other lovely women. We invite you to join us.

Meet This Month's Tea Grower

John Taylor of Nepal, opens up to us about his love story with tea.

I know that tea has been in your family for generations. Can you tell me more about that?

My grandfather, a Major in the British Army, decided that his passion was tea. He took over Gopal Dhara tea estate in the early 50's with the Sarias. Shiv Saria, who now runs the estate, might be a familiar name.

My father, at the age of sixteen, managed Gopal Dhara ‘til my grandfather decided it was time to go back home to the UK. Gopal Dhara was sold out then, but my father continued his venture with tea. Later, [he] joined Margaret's Hope tea estate as manager, and that was where I was born in 1955.

Was tea a part your life growing up?

Apart from another home in boarding school for 9 months a year, my real home was the tea estates of Darjeeling. After Margaret's Hope, it was Sungma, then Tukdah, and then Ging.  I grew up with only tea around me. It has been my life and the only thing I truly know.

What is the fondest memory you have involving tea?

I have wonderful memories of the estates—going around them with my father as a kid.  I can still get whiffs of fresh tea leaves from the withering lofts and [see] the rolling tables on our numerous visits to the factories.

So tea is a big part of your family even now, right?

All of us—three brothers—continued the tea story that my grandfather had started. My eldest brother went to Assam and is still there. He will retire in a couple of years after 37 years with Warren Tea. My youngest brother went to Assam and now looks after a tea company in the Terai region of West Bengal.

And what about you?

Even after graduation, the tea story continued for me.  I joined Balasun and Singbulli tea estates in Darjeeling. After that, and for the last 20 years, it has been Nepal teas and it will continue to be.

3 Ideas For A Romantic Valentine's Day At Home

Valentine’s Day falls during the middle of the week this year, and most of us don’t have the luxury of avoiding our job the next morning. Rather than battling other amorous couples for restaurant reservations, use these three tips to have a relaxing and romantic night in with the one you love.

Start With Cocktails

Nothing heats up the evening like a good cocktail. Instead of the typical martini, spice things up with a pomegranate cocktail. Simply combine and shake up 6 oz. White Ginger and Pomegranate tea, 4 oz. pomegranate liqueur, 2 oz. vodka, and 1 cup of crushed ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour into martini glasses, and toast to love and happiness together.

Take A Hot Bath

Follow up your cocktails with a soothing dip in the tub together (or alone...more room for you!). Make it special by using a tub tea soak with Balance tea. Place one of our iced tea bags filled with about one ounce of tea into the bath and allow the luxurious aroma of roses, peppermint and ginger to fill the room. An added bonus? The chamomile prepares you for cuddling by softening your skin. If you want to take the romance factor up another notch, sprinkle rose petals into the water.

Give & Receive A Massage

Nothing says 'I love you' like a good massage. Lavish your significant other with a rub down using a fragrant massage oil. Blend up a homemade oil infused with our Serenity tea. Place half of a cup of grapeseed or sesame oil into a glass container, then pour in two tablespoons of tea. Cover the container and allow it to sit in a window for two or three days. When you're ready to massage, strain out the tea, cut the infused oil with another half cup of uninfused oil, and prepare yourself for a lovely ending to your V Day.
